How should switching cycle be specified for industrial heating elements?
To specify the switching cycle for industrial heating elements, first match it to the furnace thermal inertia and the permitted temperature swing: a large mass with loose tolerance allows cycles of tens of seconds, while thin-wall, low watt density or tight-tolerance elements within plus or minus one degree need cycles of a few seconds or zero-cross switching. The cycle must also suit surface load, sheath diameter and material, and the rated switching life of the SSR or contactor, and follow the controller output type such as relay, SSR drive or analog signal. Verify by logging heat-up and steady-state curves at rated voltage with the actual mounting and protection, judging overshoot, steady-state ripple and settling time, then check insulation, terminals and lead temperature with a contact or infrared meter before releasing the batch.
