How should high-power flange design be specified for industrial heating elements?
Specify high-power flange heaters from duty, not catalog ratings. Fix total power and watt density first, then derive sheath diameter, element count, heated length and flange size. Match flange thickness, material, gasket face and fastening to temperature, pressure and medium corrosiveness, allowing for thermal expansion and future removal. Excessive watt density pushes sheath temperature past the alloy limit and shortens insulation life. Require hot-deformation, dielectric and leakage test data, and verify fit and control interlock on site before acceptance.
